Forklift Operator

 

As a Forklift Operator you help drive the continued success of our Distribution Centers (DC) by working safely and efficiently to support all functions of the DC. As a Forklift Operator you perform tasks in a detailed manner including but not limited to, loading, and unloading, order picking and processing, driving heavy equipment including forklifts, and ensuring proper inventory levels are maintained throughout the DC.

 

As a Forklift Operator you have a responsibility for developing the skills necessary to work within te fast-paced and detailed environment. A successful Forklift Operator must have completed new hire training, completed forklift training, and obtained certification. A Forklift Operator performs various daily duties as assigned by the DC manager to ensure the demands of internal and external customers are met. Success in this role is measured in the technician’s ability to learn new skills, operate industrial equipment safely, provide excellent customer service, and promote an atmosphere of teamwork within the organization.

 

How You Will Fit In

 

  • Maintain a safe and clean facility and use safety first practices to remain accident-free
  • Use all safety related PPE such as gloves, safety glasses, and harnesses or seatbelts while driving equipment
  • Operate powered industrial equipment (Forklifts, Squeeze clamp, Man-up Order Selectors, and Floor Scrubbers) in a safe manner
  • Load, unload, pick, and put away product using a warehouse management system (WMS), including physically moving inventory items weighing over 75 pounds.
  • Responsible for meeting individual performance metrics and goals
  • Responsible for daily safety checks of equipment
  • Maintain integrity of products through proper handling and storage
  • Perform periodic inventory counts
  • Perform routine facilities maintenance and/or housekeeping tasks
  • Complete all required in person and or computer-based training
  • Maintain personal grooming and uniform standards
  • Maintain company attendance standards
  • Other tasks as assigned

Education and Experience

 

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Prior experience working in a distribution center/warehouse environment
  • Forklift certification

 

Typical Physical Demands

 

  • Ability to learn and operate all facility equipment including computers, forklifts, and powered industrial equipment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, perform basic arithmetic functions: add, subtract, multiply, and divide, time management skills, organization skills, can-do attitude, sense of urgency, and strong work ethic
  • Very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and working from elevated surfaces
  • Frequently lift and/or move over 75 pounds
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator
  • Requires normal range of hearing and vision

Work Environment

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be working within a fast-paced distribution center and tire retread plant environment where there may be wide temperature variations depending on weather conditions. While performing duties, the employee is frequently exposed to dirt, dust, rubber smells and debris, cleaning solutions as well as powered material handling equipment and commercial truck traffic.
