Sr. Trader of Crude Oil

BASIC PURPOSE: This purpose of this position is to analyze the crude oil market, both foreign and domestic, as it pertains to demand, inventory and margins. Advise the crude by rail team where he believes front to back WTI spreads will be trading.  Assist in the development of the growth of the crude by rail business i.e. storage and blending possibilities. Communicate to the rest of the trading team views and opinions.  Integrate Musket into the physical domestic trading business. 



  • Trade WTI spreads to add value to our crude by rail business.
  • Assist in the disposition of crude by rail to Pad 2 and Pad 3 refiners.
  • Develop a storage and blending business when economical.
  • Trade domestic grades and Brent/WTI arbs.
  • Assist in business development efforts.
  • Monitor crude oil market and communicate to the desk.
  • Help develop broader portfolio strategies.
  • Other duties assigned as needed.



  • Education:
    • High school Diploma or equivalent required
    • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience:
  • 5 years of relevant industry experience



  • Skills:
    • Hard Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office, working knowledge of Quantitative Acumen
    • Soft Skills: Good written and oral communication skills, team player, exceptional customer service, attention to detail, self motivated, good time management skills, and innovative thinking
  • Typical Physical Demands:
    • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping
    • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
    • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator
    • Requires normal range of hearing and vision
    • Possible overnight/weekend work
