Trader Development Program

BASIC PURPOSE: This is an 18 – 24-month program designed to fully immerse candidates in the daily activities of a commodities trading company and identifies and trains future Musket Traders. 

 

Rotations cover several commercial skill building modules designed to give the experience, knowledge, and skill development across the critical functions that comprise the foundational insights required by all oil traders at Musket. Participants will have opportunity to gain valuable insight, resources, and foster meaningful relationships through getting hands on experience from those currently doing the jobs in each rotation. Employees will spend 4-6 months in each area.

 

Participants will test at the end of the program to assess how well they can apply what they have learned through trading simulations. Passing the test guarantees a clear career path to a full-time commercial role at Musket, including but not limited to Trader, Marketer or Business Development. Unsuccessful candidates will gain valuable experience that can open doors outside of the commercial roles listed above.

                                                                                                                   

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES (Rotational Focus):

  • Commercial Operations
    • Scheduling: Rotation focuses on competencies around any of the following:
      • Managing logistical movements for Musket trading books
      • Managing daily scheduling activities (including nominations, confirmations, allocations)
  • Mid Office/Risk
    • PNL Analyst: Rotation centers on competencies targeting calculating and reporting accurate representation of Musket’s market risks and profitability.
  • Supply/Trading
    • Supply Coordinator: Rotation targets procuring the most cost efficient and reliable supply for Love’s Travel Stops and Country Stores with and centers on negotiation tactics, contracting, relationship building with suppliers and collaboration across internal teams at Circle K, Musket, Love’s and Gemini.
    • Oil Market Analyst: Rotation centers on competencies focused on tools that inform trading, marketing, and sourcing decisions by evaluating and measuring fundamentals, technical, and money flow market drivers.
  • Gemini/Fleet Marketing  
    • Analyst: Rotation is designed to develop an understanding of the full Musket / Gemini / Love’s value-chain through exposure to the system built to optimize costs and maximize sales price to retail customers.
  • Other duties and opportunities assigned as needed

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education:
    • High school Diploma or equivalent required
    • Bachelor’s Degree required
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Economics or MBA Preferred
  • Experience:
    • 1 - 2 year’s relevant work experience preferred
    • 1 – 2 year’s-experience in price risk management
    • 1 – 2 year’s-experience analyzing data and creating reports
    • 1 – 2 year’s-experience working with contracts
    • 1 – 2 year’s-experience managing relationships with internal and/or external customers or accounts

    • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
