BASIC PURPOSE: Musket Corporation is seeking a highly motivated Distillates Trader to manage and execute trading activities across the U.S. Gulf Coast. This is a high-impact trading role focused on the USGC distillates market, requiring a deep understanding of component economics, blending optimization, and market fundamentals to drive profitable strategies. The position is highly strategic and margin-driven—sitting at the intersection of spec compliance, value arbitrage across blend components, and export market dynamics.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and execute middle distillates trading strategies, with a focus on optimizing blending, storage, and arbitrage opportunities across the USGC.
  • Trade ULSD, jet fuel, and heating oil grades, identifying pricing dislocations, export opportunities, and pipeline arbitrage across key systems (e.g., Colonial, Magellan).
  • Analyze and act on price differentials between blend components such as straight-run distillates, cracked stocks, kerosene, renewable components, and additives.
  • Manage exposure to the USGC export market, optimizing cargo flows into Latin America and other global destinations based on pricing, specs, and vessel economics.
  • Partner closely with analytics, chartering, scheduling, and operations teams to evaluate blending economics, trade feasibility, and optimal delivery timing.
  • Monitor supply and demand fundamentals, regional inventory shifts, crack spreads, seasonal trends, and market-moving regulatory developments (e.g., EPA regulations, RINs/RD impact).
  • Build and maintain strong commercial relationships with refiners, counterparties, terminal operators, and third-party logistics providers to source and place barrels competitively.
  • Leverage trading systems and market data to inform pricing decisions, structure forward curves, and support blend optimization and trade modeling.
  • Ensure compliance and risk controls are met in alignment with company policy and applicable regulations (CFTC, ICE, NYMEX, etc.).
  • Other duties assigned as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Education:

  • High school Diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or a related field

Experience:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience trading middle distillates in physical and/or paper markets, with a focus on the U.S. Gulf Coast.
  • Deep understanding of component blending economics and distillate specifications.
  • Proven track record of generating trading P&L and managing exposure across multiple channels (domestic, pipeline, barge, export).
  • Familiarity with USGC infrastructure including pipeline systems (Colonial, Explorer, Magellan), terminals, and storage assets.
  • Solid knowledge of global distillate flows, export pricing mechanisms, and freight fundamentals.
  • Strong analytical, commercial, and relationship-building skills.

SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Skills:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products suite, and ability to learn new software applications and computer programs.
  • Build & sustain relationships using appropriate interpersonal skills and communication methods to build constructive relationships with customers, business units, service organizations and other stakeholders to meet shared goals and objectives.
  • Contribute to the team’s success by demonstrating cooperation and collaboration while participating in a group or team environment.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong drive for performance and innovation.
  • Results driven focus with the goal and ability to harness others’ energy to drive toward goal alignment which meets or exceeds expectations.
