BASIC PURPOSE: This position will support Musket Energy Canada, ULC and will be based out of Calgary, Alberta. This role will focus on developing and maintaining supply/demand and pricing models, conducting market research, building analytical trading tools, and generating insights that drive trading decisions
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and maintain supply/demand models for crude oil and condensate markets in North America; ensure local models are consistent across geographies.
- Collect and clean large datasets from various sources, ensuring data accuracy and relevance for analysis. Manage pricing, crude quality, production, and pipeline data across multiple markets.
- Develop and run models to evaluate condensate equalization in Canada.
- Develop and maintain quantitative models to value storage, pipeline, and refinery assets.
- Collaborate with traders and analysts to support and challenge trading strategies.
- Conduct market research and statistical analyses on crude oil and products transportation flows.
- Other duties assigned as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education:
- Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field required.
Experience:
- 3+ years in commodities trading space (front or mid-office).
- Experience working with near-term supply/demand balances in a trading environment.
- Advanced training in mathematics, statistics, physics, computer science, or another quantitative field.
- Familiarity with optimization of trading assets such as pipeline space and storage.
- Knowledge of blending crude oil grades to pipeline specifications and relevant impacts on local markets.
- Prior experience working in a data driven research environment.
SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Skills:
- Understanding of North American crude oil and product market fundamentals.
- Detailed knowledge of how to seek and manage fundamental source data.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R.
- Strong knowledge of statistical analysis, machine learning techniques, and data visualization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and develop actionable insights.
- Quantitative finance skills (including theoretical and practical knowledge of financial and real options).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to think independently to influence and challenge trading views.
- Detail oriented, hard working and able to adapt to a wide range of evolving tasks.
Typical Physical Demands:
- Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
- Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
