Market and Structuring Analyst

BASIC PURPOSE: This role is designed to create and enhance tools intended to inform investment, trading, marketing and sourcing decisions by developing valuation models and by evaluating and measuring fundamentals, technical market drivers, deal structures, and basic accounting standards.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop market trend data that supports and identifies investment and trading opportunities.
  • Facilitate meetings between stakeholders to ensure proper communication and important data flow.
  • Develop pro formas to justify investment, development, and purchasing decisions.
  • Ability to communicate and present investment decisions, development updates and group performance to various customers including upper management
  • Design and/or validation of existing valuation models for deals and hard-to-value securities
  • Research and evaluate proposed longer term or complex transactions
  • Evaluate new transaction opportunities by building financial models, researching inputs, analyzing industry trends, participating in due diligence, etc
  • Document decision making rationale and model assumption
  • Prepare the case for each deal that may require additional approval, including presentations summarizing the structure, value and risks
  • Gain commercial acumen in markets and earn the trust of the origination and trading teams
  • Consult with company deal originators and trading teams about alternatives or additions to proposed deal structures

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education:
    • College degree or equivalent required
    • Economics, Finance, Mathematics, or Engineering background preferred
  • Experience:
    • Prior experience building models for valuing investments required.

 

      SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Skills:
    • Hard Skills: Strong capabilities in MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint and other management systems building financial models.  Broad understanding of natural gas and electricity markets and trading strategies are required.
    • Soft Skills: Good written and oral communication skills, team player, exceptional customer service, attention to detail, self-motivated, good time management skills, innovative thinking and ability to think outside the box, and excellent attention to detail.
  • Typical Physical Demands:
    • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
    • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
    • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
    • Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
