Manager of Business Development

BASIC PURPOSE: Responsible for developing, leading, negotiating, and implementing the growth strategies and projects for Musket across all business lines including:  RNG, RD, Biodiesel, DEF refined products and ethanol.  Responsible for structuring and negotiating all aspects of the contract terms as well as leading a multi-function team (deal team) regarding the new growth projects.  In addition to traditional business development around existing business capabilities, this role is also responsible for creating new business platforms through acquisition or grass-roots development.    

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the Business Development team and deals that spans across multiple commodity lines
  • Manage and foster relationships with prospective deal customers and partners.
  • Work with internal and external counsel to negotiate and paper up structured deals.
  • Develop strategy metrics, contract strategies, methods, standards and processes to efficiently and effectively screen new business opportunities and projects.
  • Originate new ideas and deal flow to generate growth in top and bottom line new business opportunities.
  • Key leader and manager of the negotiation of deal structures, terms and conditions within contracts, as well as overall responsibility to manage all legs of a structured deal within Musket.
  • Work with Structuring and Analytics to identify and offer strategies and pricing concepts to Manage Major Risks in structured deals.
  • Work with internal teams or other applicable business lines within the larger Loves Family of Companies to create internal partnerships on projects as applicable.
  • Evaluate and screen new transaction opportunities by helping the Structuring and Analytics group build financial models, research inputs, analyze industry trends. 
  • Lead the due diligence efforts around structured deals for the firm
  • Routinely communicate and present investment decisions, development updates and group performance to various customers including upper management

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education:
    • High school Diploma or equivalent required
    • College Degree required
    • MBA, Finance, Mathematics, or Engineering background a plus
  • Experience:
    • Prefer work experience in refined products, renewable products (RNG, RD, Ethanol, DEF, CNG) and/or energy commodities and trading activities for a minimum of 5 years.
    • Strong consideration for candidates with history of deal structuring and pricing, M&A project work, financial model creation and deal negotiation experience.  Candidates ability to plug into already moving projects and deals is a must.
    • Strong teamwork skills and interpersonal skills required due to flat organizational structure

 

SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Skills:
    • Extensive deal experience in finding, negotiating, structuring and closing structured transactions in the energy commodity space. 
    • Soft Skills: Good written and oral communication skills, team player, exceptional customer service, attention to detail, self-motivated, good time management skills, innovative thinking and ability to think outside the box, and excellent attention to detail.
    • Travel of 3-4 days per month at a minimum expected.
  • Typical Physical Demands:
      • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
      • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
      • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
      • Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
