DEF Business Analyst

   BASIC PURPOSE & DESCRIPTION: The Business Analyst for the DEF group is a multi-function position responsible for analytical activities and strategic processes aligned with terminal assets, distribution, sourcing, commercial business projections/trends, scheduling, and partnership tasks in support of the expansion of the DEF business line for the Love’s Family of Companies.  This role will serve as a liaison between the DEF BU and IT departments in an effort to communicate areas of need into technological solutions aimed at driving informed business decisions.




  • Become an expert on our DEF business model with an understanding of every aspect
  • Perform comparative analytics around all aspects of our terminal asset performance.  Up to & including monthly/annual reporting platforms for PnL and trend reports around OPEX
  • Spearhead projects with Right Angle, SAP & Tableau teams to manage & report on our commercial business into the future
  • Design & build real-time analytics for our Wholesale Marketing Team with customer & commodity comparisons, and monthly/quarterly reporting to manage business performance
  • Reconcile SRA reports against expected business results
  • Convert market intel into productive analytics
  • Work with Gemini analysts to tailor logistics reporting for the DEF Commercial business and enhance efforts around streamline reporting
  • Comparative analysis on Love’s exceptions weekly
  • Develop tools to reconcile freight invoices to expectation and reporting platforms to measure those efforts
  • Attend weekly meetings with Musket and Love’s senior management
  • Develop weekly, monthly & quarterly reports with all aspects of the commercial DEF business line




  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, or Engineering from accredited university preferred.


  • 1 – 3 years of industry experience is preferred




  • Self-starter that operates at their best with limited direction from management
  • High level of interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with senior management
  • Experience working in a flat, open concept office where teamwork and transparency is a must
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to change focus quickly
  • Ability to effectively present analytical concepts and new ideas to all levels of the business
  • Willingness to learn the DEF business, as well as the logistical concepts around the physical commodity
  • Hard Skills: Strong Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Tableau, Power BI and Sharepoint skills
  • Soft Skills:  good written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, innovative thinking, self motivated, and exceptional customer service.

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
  • Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
