Sr. Manager of Corporate Development

BASIC PURPOSE: Lead corporate development initiatives and execution of strategies across the Love’s Family of Companies under the leadership of the department director.



  • Manage highly confidential information which would have immediate impact on the company and counterparties if shared beyond its intended audience and relevant company management.
  • Manage acquisition, joint venture and strategic alliance activities and processes: identify opportunities, build valuations and forecasts, perform due diligence, and conduct negotiations and business integrations.
  • Develop strategies and structuring alternatives for acquisitions, strategic alliances, joint ventures, and other complex commercial arrangements.
  • Seek, develop, and maintain internal and external networking relationships and partnerships which generate understanding of the corporate development process, deal flow and new business growth, including working with business units to develop strategic business and integration plans.
  • Communicate to all levels of the organization, and to external constituents when appropriate, including without limitation by preparing and presenting proposals, analysis, overviews, and status updates of opportunities and projects.
  • Work with department director to develop department strategy, planning and budgeting processes.
  • Manage overall team performance as assigned which may include staffing, goal setting, performance evaluations, development as well as providing training and direction for direct reports.
  • Requires occasional travel for corporate development opportunities and conferences.
  • Other additional duties as assigned.



  • Education:
    • High School diploma or equivalent required.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in a discipline complimentary to corporate development or equivalent experience.
  • Experience:
    • 7+ years’ experience in deal negotiation required.
    • Experience in transportation, retail, downstream or alternative energy, or financial products/services preferred.



  • Skills:
    • Articulate with excellent communication and presentation skills.
    • Strong research and negotiation skills – motivated, persuasive, persistent.
    • Ability to analyze transactions and companies to determine value and optimal deal structure.  
    • Extremely well organized with attention to detail; specifically, in reviewing proposals, contracts and documents. 
    • Computer skills, including heavy use of Microsoft Office products.
  • Typical Physical Demands:
    • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
    • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
    • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
    • Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
