Tax Research Systems Analyst

BASIC PURPOSE: The primary purpose of the Excise Tax Research & Systems Analyst is to ensure the accuracy and appropriate timing of releasing tax guides and tax rule set-up in multiple systems. Researches and interprets indirect tax laws and regulations in the United States, Mexico and Canada.    

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Research projects as needed by business.
• Ensures compliance by communicating with vendors such as RIA, CCH, TTR, Vertex and others.
• Review product taxability for both new and current products.
• Update and Review tax information on internal website.
• Review issuance of exemption certificates and fuel licenses.
• Review transactional rules in multiple systems.
• Understanding of the tax rule implications on the general ledger.
• Maintain accuracy of the company tax guides.
• Monitor, research, and interpret tax legislation, regulations and rate changes.
• Relay transactional tax guidance to internal and external customers; field compliance questions as requested.
• Ensure fuel licenses are accurately entered into system.
• Review and approve liability requests from multiple departments.
• Build and maintain good relationships with state governments and taxing jurisdictions and internal business groups.
• Other duties assigned as needed.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Education:
 HS Diploma or equivalent required
 Bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent training/experience strongly preferred
• Experience:
 3 + years in multi-state sales or fuel tax, research or related experience preferred

 

SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Hard Skills:
 Strong computer skills (Right Angle knowledge a plus); ability to learn new software applications quickly; technical minded; fundamental knowledge of accounting principles.
• Soft Skills:
 Ability to think critically; detail-oriented; organizational skills with ability to multi-task; innovative and self-motivated, Excellent verbal and written communication with both external and internal customers.
• Typical Physical Demands:
 Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
 Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
 Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
 Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
