Welcome to Love's: The Lead Data Scientist will drive advanced analytics and machine learning initiatives across our convenience store network. In addition to leading high-impact analytical projects, this role includes direct supervision and development of a growing team of data scientists and analysts.

 

Job Functions:

  • Develop deep fluency in the composition, roles, and contributions of Love’s products, strategy, and customers, as well as Love’s business performance
  • Supervise a team of data scientists, analysts, and/or analytics engineers, including setting goals, managing performance, and providing regular feedback while fostering a collaborative work environment
  • Coach and mentor team members in technical methods, project execution, and business alignment
  • Establish best practices for modeling, experimentation, documentation, and model governance
  • Identify gaps/opportunities with our existing measurement and data solutions and recommend improvements to enable the analytics team to realize our maximum potential
  • Design and implement advanced analytics and machine learning solutions for key business domains such as pricing, promotions, assortment optimization, labor planning, and customer segmentation
  • Facilitate clear and concise communication of complex data insights to stakeholders, including non-technical audiences, through presentations, reports, and visualizations
  • Work with data engineering to ensure the data infrastructure supports scalable analytics solutions
  • Travel required as needed
  • On-call availability

 

Experience and Qualifications:   

  • BA/BS minimum, Masters preferred, in a relevant field, such as business analytics, mathematics, statistics, finance, economics, management information systems, computer science, engineering or other quantitative fields.
  • 4+ years experience preferred in retail, sales, marketing, data, IT, or operations with exposure to reporting and analytics
  • In-depth, hands-on knowledge of data science tools preferred
  • Proven experience with troubleshooting principles and issue resolution techniques

 

     Skills and Physical Demands: 

  • 4+ years of experience querying data from relational databases using SQL, using advanced algorithms, programming languages, or technologies in the development of technical analytics solutions or capabilities, extracting insights from large databases, translating data and insights into actionable solutions and presenting findings
  • 1+ years of experience with mentoring or leading analytical projects
  •     Competency using R, Python, or other similar statistical software to develop analytical solutions, experience with data wrangling, data cleaning and prep, awareness of Big Data concepts, tools, and architecture, data modelling and business analytics experience, excel proficiency including simple formulas and pivot tables, understanding of data warehouse principles and database structures, data visualization skills and ability to present technical solutions to non-technical audience
  • Natural curiosity that welcomes and embraces change and willingness to try new thing, excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills, ability to devise an analytical approach to solving business problem, capacity to explain and simplify complex analytics for a wide range of audiences, work effectively within a team-oriented and collaborative environment, keen attention to detail, highly motivated self-starter 
  •   Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping, manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator
