Inventory Research Clerk

BASIC PURPOSE: An Inventory Research Clerk is tasked with ensuring that all items in our store inventories are properly received and inventoried at the correct quantity and cost.  The ability to maintain the proper inventory of merchandise to support our sales is paramount to the success of our stores. Our primary goal is to investigate and correct issues where our merchandise is being received in error compared to how it should have been received.  In addition, clerks may investigate reported errors with in-stock items to correct system issues causing the balance, cost, or vendor setup to be incorrect.  The following is an example of some of the responsibilities of the Inventory Research Clerk. It is not intended to be an inclusive record of the entire role of the Inventory Research Clerk.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review merchandise receiving practices and investigate errors associated with the receiving process
  • Investigate errors with in-stock items and troubleshoot to correct the errors
  • Ensure ASNs (Advanced Shipping Notices) and POs (Purchase Orders) are correct prior to being received by the store including both quantity and cost
  • Promptly address post-receiving exceptions to correct issues that happen at time of receiving
  • Review daily exception reporting to identify and correct issues with WACs (Weighted Average Cost) that values the store inventory
  • Review daily exceptions caused by vendors delivering items that are not approved for stores
  • Perform other duties as recognized and assigned by the Inventory Research Lead

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education:
    • High School or GED
  • Experience:
    • Experience with inventory receiving preferred

 

SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Skills:

  • Hard Skills: Strong knowledge of receiving and inventory management; working knowledge of Windows operating systems; experience with Microsoft Office; ability to review numbers and understand calculator or Excel functions to balance numbers.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent listening and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate ideas in both technical and business terms; highly self-motivated and directed; keen attention to detail; proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities; ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment; strong customer service orientation; experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
  • Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
