Insurance and Risk Management Specialist

BASIC PURPOSE: The purpose of this job is to manage the procurement of insurance coverage and other risk transfer or risk finance vehicles and provides guidance to the organization regarding insurance coverages, exposure impact, and general risk issues.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee insurance renewal processes and coordinates underwriter requests and meetings
  • Review contractual language to meet insurance requirements and advise of potential risk
  • Review and maintain schedule of insurance and any required documentation
  • Prepare and deliver data for routine and special reporting
  • Audit policies, exposures, and premiums for accuracy and cost savings opportunities
  • Maintain surety program and identify savings opportunities
  • Maintain relationships with broker and other vendors
  • Conduct requests for vendor proposals as deemed necessary or appropriate
  • Provide support for emerging risk management needs
  • Stay abreast of potential risk management related issues and communicating to the organization accordingly
  • Other work as may be required

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education:
    • College degree preferred but not required (risk management, finance, business, or similar)
  • Experience:
    • Experience in risk management considered in lieu of education

 

      SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Skills:
    • Hard skills: Knowledge in Microsoft Office, keyboard with high degree of accuracy, and the ability to conduct research using a variety of sources. Ability to develop and analyze financial reporting and strong business acumen.
    • Soft Skills: Excellent written/verbal communication, detail oriented, ability to provide accurate documentation, flexibility and ability to prioritize projects, creativity and conflict resolution skills
  • Typical Physical Demands:
    • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping
    • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator
    • Requires the ability to communicate via telephone
