BASIC PURPOSE: The basic purpose of the IT Project Portfolio Manager is to manage business unit portfolio(s) of IT projects through a team of project managers, ensuring an efective and consistent experience in support of project intake and delivery. This position oversees multiple technology projects varying in size and complexity and is the conduit between project teams and business units.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as an ongoing steward of a defined work intake and work portfolio management process, ensuring the project lifecycle follows consistent, repeatable patterns from intake to closure.
- Uphold, tune, and mature an intake process and portfolio management pipeline that meets the needs of business unit and IT leadership.
- Defines projects, identifies expected outcomes, establishes timelines, and assigns project staff.
- Drive early collaboration of multi-disciplinary teams in the intake, evaluation, and initiation of projects.
- Coordinate the sequencing and timing of projects based on intra-team and cross-functional resource constraints and dependencies.
- Serve as an advocate and educator of Portfolio Management as a strategic discipline to business leaders and IT.
- Maintains in-depth understanding of project and portfolio data and translates that information into actionable insights for senior leadership.
- Plan and facilitate monthly, quarterly, annual key IT Portfolio status overviews and deep dive sessions.
- Monitor performance of projects within portfolio and reporting on portfolio objectives.
- Gather various elements of project performance data and routinely aggregate, tune, and report such to the portfolio owners, stakeholders, and leadership.
- Foster adoption of new processes, frameworks, tools supporting IT Portfolios while providing
- Perform ongoing application and product portfolio assessment alongside technical and business leads to define and prioritize opportunities for portfolio improvement.
- Ensures projects are completed on time and within quality standards.
- Other duties as assigned, which may include Project Management and resource/capacity planning.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Education:
- Typically requires a bachelor's degree and minimum of 3 years experience
- Experience:
- 8+ years of project management in waterfall or agile frameworks
- Minimum of 3 years of experience managing IT project portfolios in blended Agile and traditional PPM environments delivering strategic and complex programs in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong experience managing multiple parallel efforts and delivering quality deliverables on schedule.
- Project scheduling, decision making and management skills with ability to mentor others.
- Experience with Project Portfolio Management (PPM) tools and Product road-mapping tools.
- Project Management and Agile certifications preferred, but not required: PMP, PMI, ITIL 4 Foundations, CSM, CSPO, SAFe, etc.

- Analytical skill set to analyze project and portfolio data as well as develop reports, dashboards and analytics to support.
- Proven ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships across IT and Business leadership, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
- Skilled in coaching and mentoring program and project managers.
- Ability to work effectively across multiple stakeholder groups and build team cohesiveness.
- Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills with an ability to manage competing demands.

- Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator
- Requires normal range of hearing and vision
