BASIC PURPOSE: The Cloud Systems Engineer Lead will lead Love’s Digital Platform Team for AWS.  The Lead will bring an innovative, software driven approach to the design, deployment, and management of our AWS cloud environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in Agile software development practices applied in the cloud automation domain.  The candidate must have deep experience in three key phases of cloud lifecycles: Engineering, operations, and administration. The Engineer Lead will also provide organizational leadership and administration for the Digital Platform Team.



  • Engineering
    • Design technical architecture for a workload's use of IaaS and PaaS components
    • Build application stack "golden images" for cloud environments
    • Define best practices for manually provisioning infrastructure into the cloud environment
    • Develop automated provisioning into the cloud environment
    • Automate management of the cloud environment and its workloads
    • Cloud related problem management
    • Cloud capacity management
    • Implement technical controls for cloud governance
    • Forecast cloud spending
    • Implementing cloud cost optimizations
    • Implementing integrations between cloud and non-cloud infrastructure elements
  • Operations
    • Monitor production workloads that run on top of IaaS and PaaS
    • Incident management for IaaS and PaaS workloads for service issues and for integrations between cloud and non-cloud infrastructure elements
    • Perform systems administration tasks for compute instances (at the operating system level and above)
    • Execute operational processes such as configuration or software updates, patching, backups and restores or failover actions.
    • Troubleshooting IaaS or PaaS related user errors
  • Administration
    • Approve or deny routine cloud-related requests made within a service management system
    • User Management (moves / adds / changes) within cloud IAM
    • Initiate the execution of automated cloud-related actions
    • Migrate of changes throughout the technical landscapes.
  • Leadership
    • Manage Day-to-Day activities of team members ensuring tasks are prioritized
    • Manage Day-to-Day activities of Digital Platform Team members ensuring tasks are prioritized.
    • Setup yearly Goals for the Teams based on the overarching goals set by the Company.
    • Monitor team individual’s performance and provide timely feedback to improve individual’s performance
    • Periodic one-on-one sessions. Mid-year and Yearly reviews with team members to ensure overall team individual success.
    • Escalate issues to key management and stakeholders.



  • Education:
    • HS Diploma or equivalent required
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred
    • AWS and Azure Solution Architect family of certifications preferred
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years designing and implementing virtual systems
    • 5+ years in enterprise systems administration.
    • 5+ years working with enterprise compute and storage systems, both physical and virtual
    • 3+ years working with automation/scripting languages —e.g. Python, PowerShell, JavaScript
    • 3+ years working with cloud platforms —e.g. AWS, Azure



  • Hard Skills:
    • Advanced knowledge of Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or other public cloud experience
    • Knowledge and experience with declarative languages - Cloud Formation and / or Terraform required
    • Knowledge of AWS Cloud Development Kit preferred
    • Familiarity with configuration management platforms —e.g. Puppet, Ansible
    • Microsoft PowerShell, Python, JavaScript, or other scripting/coding language proficiency
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server, RedHat Enterprise Linux (or equivalent)
  • Soft Skills:

    • Exceptional oral and written communicator
    • Analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail
    • Self-motivated and directed, with ability to effectively prioritize and execute under minimal supervision

  • Typical Physical Demands:
    • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
    • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
    • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
    • Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
