Cloud Systems Administrator

Basic Purpose: The Cloud Systems Administrator’s responsibilities include but are not limited to configuring and fine-tuning public and private cloud infrastructure systems, installing and configuring virtual cloud instances, and supporting server OS instances including security configurations, patching, and troubleshooting. A functional understanding of infrastructure hardware, operating systems, virtualization, and cloud methodology is required.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Implement and maintain technology, processes, and strategies of existing public and private cloud systems.
  • Generate and review metrics to track, report, and optimize capacity, performance, and areas as defined by management.
  • Implement and maintain enterprise storage, compute, and orchestration and automation platforms
  • Familiarity with critical IT concepts and processes, such as configuration management, high availability, networking, disaster recovery, and security.
  • Provide technical support for system and software issues
  • Manage the configuration and operational integrity of server operating systems and applications
  • Monitor the system daily and respond immediately to security or usability concerns
  • Upgrade systems and processes as required for enhanced functionality and security issue resolution
  • Install and maintain identified technologies/software 
  • Proficiency with third party software integration within a server enterprise environment 
  • Participates in and provides input to projects related to business units and overall IT infrastructure.

 

Education and Experience

  • Education
    • HS Diploma or equivalent required
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred
    • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or equivalent certification preferred
  • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Experience
    • 5+ years enterprise systems administration.
    • 5+ years working with enterprise compute and storage systems, both physical and virtual.
    • 2+ years working with automation/scripting languages —e.g. Python, PowerShell, JavaScript
    • 2+ years working with cloud infrastructure systems —e.g. Office 365, AWS, Azure

 

SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Hard Skills:

  • Server hardware and OS experience with Windows Server 2012 and 2016 required; experience managing virtual servers in a VMWare environment 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server and/or RedHat Enterprise Linux (or equivalent)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Office 365, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, or other public cloud platforms
  • Knowledge and experience with VMWare vSphere ESXi 6.0+
  • Knowledge and experience with server-class hardware —e.g. Cisco UCS, Dell, Lenovo
