The Enterprise Data & Analytics group at Love’s Travel Stops is looking for a Big Data Developer, to be a part of a team that designs and develops Big Data solutions that meet business objectives.  This is an exciting opportunity to work for a family-owned company that continues to experience growth and get in on the ground floor to help build the company’s Big Data practice.  The ideal candidate has an understanding of analytics and possesses a desire to push the business further through innovation.  This role requires a close partnership with the Data Science/Analyst community, as well as various IT teams, to ensure requirements are met and solutions are supportable and scalable.


  • Design and implement data ingestion techniques for real time and batch processes for a variety of sources into a data warehouse
  • Visualize and report data findings creatively in a variety of visual formats that provide insights to the organization
  • Develop machine learning or artificial intelligence models to provide predictive analytics for various business needs
  • Knowledge of data, master data and metadata related standards, processes and technology
  • Define and document architecture roadmaps and standards
  • Drive use case analysis and solution design around activities focused on determining how to best meet customer requirements within the tools of the ecosystem
  • Ensure scalability and high availability, fault tolerance, and elasticity within the big data ecosystem
  • Architect and develop ELT and ETL solutions focused on moving data from highly diverse data landscape into a centralized data lake; also, architect solutions to acquire semi/unstructured data sources, such as sensors, machine logs, click streams, etc.
  • Monitor and optimize activities centered on obtaining data and loading into an enterprise data lake
  • Serve as an expert in efficient ETL, data quality, and data consolidation
  • Stay current with vendor/product roadmaps and make recommendations for adoption
  • Maintain a customer-focused attitude


  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Sciences or Computer Engineering
  • Experience/Knowledge:
    • At least 4 years of experience working in an IT role
    • 3 to 6 years of professional (nonacademic) experience working with big data technologies: ETL/ELT, Spark, MapReduce, R, SQL, AWS Sagemaker or AWS Greengrass
    • Solid understanding of statistical and predictive modeling concepts
    • Experience in working with Java/J2EE applications
    • Proficiency in writing Python code
    • Proficiency with XML and JSON formats
    • Experience with visualization tools such as Tableau
    • Experience with RDBMS platforms, such as Microsoft SQL Server or solid understanding of SQL languages
    • Experience with Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure services related to AI and Machine Learning
    • Experience with Spark is a plus
    • Experience with Snowflake is a plus


  • Skills:
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities effectively
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Typical Physical Demands:
    • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
    • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
    • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
    • Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
