BASIC PURPOSE:  Associate Project Engineer to provide engineering, planning, and project management for installations of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations, Photovoltaic (PV) solar electric installations, Distributed Energy installations, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueling facilities, Hydrogen fueling facilities, and Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) facilities for Love’s Travel Stop and other third-party customers.  Manage phases of project execution including estimating, technical design, equipment procurement, construction technical guidance, and support project commissioning. Associate Project Engineer will work with the Grants team, internal and external design firms, equipment vendors, and coordination of utility service providers.  Active and continuing communication of project’s status to all key stakeholders internally and externally to clients.



  • Evaluate new EV charging, Solar, and Distributed Energy opportunities and develop preliminary design.
  • Support business development and grant development as a technical resource.
  • Develop preliminary station drawing in AutoCAD and provide station electrical pricing estimates.
  • Specify and procure electrical equipment for Trillium’s alternative energy projects.
  • Design interconnecting systems and provide technical feedback to internal and external design firms.
  • Support coordination with the electric utilities and local AHJs.
  • Continually review product offerings in the industry and make recommendations on products to use. 
  • Maintain existing relationships with vendors and build new strategic relationships.
  • Work with procurement to purchase components that meet project specifications, schedule, and budget.
  • Participate in construction phase periodic site visits to identify, solve, and execute engineering and design RFI’s to avoid project schedule and cost creep.
  • Use of appropriate interpersonal skills and communication methods to build constructive relationships with clients, business units, service organizations, and other stakeholders to meet shared goals and objectives.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering Required

Required Experience:

  • 2+ years designing or supporting Electrical Power Systems, and other mechanical systems.
  • 2+ years utilizing and interpreting NFPA 70: NEC, and other national standards.

Preferred Experience:

  • 1+ years designing and executing EV Charging Infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or other drafting software

  • Full knowledge of Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Project. Must be able to type 40 wpm and compose professional emails, letters, and contracts.

Required Physical Demands:

  • Travel required, approximately 25%.
  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
  • Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
