Merchandising Intern (Summer 2027)

BASIC PURPOSE: The Merchandising Intern will support the Merchandising team through analysis, reporting, and project work designed to improve product assortment, pricing, promotions, and overall category performance. The intern will gain hands-on experience with Love’s merchandising business by working with category and cross-functional teams to evaluate business performance, identify opportunities, and support initiatives that enhance the customer experience and drive profitable growth.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES:

  • Assist the Merchandising team with category analysis, reporting, and business performance reviews.
  • Analyze sales, margin, pricing, promotional, and product performance data to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Support product assortment and category initiatives by gathering, organizing, and evaluating relevant business data.
  • Assist with pricing and promotional analysis, including measuring results and identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Support category managers with preparation for business reviews, vendor discussions, presentations, and special projects.
  • Conduct competitive and market research to identify merchandising trends, product opportunities, and changes in customer preferences.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams such as Supply Chain, Operations, Marketing, Finance, and other business areas to support merchandising initiatives.
  • Develop reports, dashboards, presentations, or other materials that clearly communicate findings and recommendations.
  • Gain exposure to the product lifecycle and key merchandising processes, including assortment, pricing, promotions, vendor relationships, and category performance.
  • Visit Love’s locations, as appropriate, to gain an understanding of store execution, product placement, merchandising standards, and the customer experience.
  • Participate in classroom training modules and professional development opportunities.
  • Participate in Q&A sessions with executives, social networking events, and community volunteering activities.
  • Complete an assigned internship project and present findings and recommendations to Love’s leadership.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising, Business, Supply Chain Management, Marketing, Finance, Economics, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • Experience: No prior professional experience required. Relevant coursework, internships, retail experience, or experience working with data is a plus.

 

SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in using data to make business decisions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail with strong organizational, workload-management, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to translate analysis into clear observations and recommendations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build productive relationships with cross-functional partners.
  • Highly self-motivated, curious, and willing to learn.
  • Critical-thinking abilities.
  • Typical physical demands include prolonged sitting with occasional bending and stooping.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
  • Normal hearing and vision range required.
