Associate Project Engineer- Electrical
BASIC PURPOSE: The Associate Project Engineer – Electrical supports the design and execution of alternative energy infrastructure projects, including EV charging stations, CNG and Hydrogen fueling facilities, solar installations, and RNG systems. This role assists senior engineers with preliminary engineering, cost estimating, technical design, equipment procurement, construction support, and commissioning. The position works closely with grants and sales teams, design firms, equipment vendors, and utility providers, ensuring ongoing communication of project status to all stakeholders. The Associate Project Engineer also contributes to evaluating emerging technologies and building vendor relationships.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform preliminary design and generate pricing for alternative energy infrastructure projects, including drafting layouts and conducting vendor outreach.
- Assist with utility engagement and AHJ coordination for electrical-related requirements and applications.
- Collaborate with the grants and sales teams to provide technical input on new opportunities and funding initiatives.
- Work closely under the guidance of senior engineers on all phases of active projects, including technical design, equipment procurement, construction support, and commissioning.
- Support the development of permit drawings, construction drawings, and as-built documentation by working with internal and external design teams.
- Answer field questions and participate in construction phase site visits to help resolve technical issues.
- Learn and gain familiarity with the latest electrical codes and standards, including the National Electric Code.
- Work with the automation team to ensure proper control and networking design for projects.
- Assist in the development and updates of new policies, procedures, and standards to drive efficiency and best practices.
- Assess new products, technologies, and industry best practices, contributing observations and feedback to senior engineers for consideration.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required Education:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
Required Experience:
- 0–1 years of relevant engineering experience (entry-level candidates encouraged to apply).
Preferred Experience:
- 1–3 years of experience in electrical design, project engineering, or related roles.
- Familiarity with alternative energy systems (EV charging, CNG, Hydrogen, Solar, RNG).
- Experience with AutoCAD or similar design software.
- Exposure to the National Electric Code (NEC) and basic understanding of electrical standards.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and project management tools such as Microsoft Project.
- Comfortable with basic administrative tasks, including typing at least 40 words per minute and preparing professional documents and correspondence.
- Ability to occasionally travel to project sites and perform field work as needed.
Required Physical Demands:
- Travel required, approximately 10-25%.
- Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
