Sales Tax Analyst

BASIC PURPOSE: The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Senior Supervisor of Sales Tax Compliance by ensuring accurate and timely compliance filing.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages and guides the Sales Tax Analysts.
  • Establishes policies and procedures related to retail and hospitality tax.
  • Ensures compliance by communicating with internal and external customers.
  • Collaborates with staff accountants to explain variances in tax liability accounts.
  • Reviews and periodically files sales, use, occupancy and other tax returns.
  • Works with Tax Research, Audit, and other departments to ensure compliance in filings, amendments, notices and refund requests.
  • Communicates business changes that affect retail and hospitality tax and ensures proper reporting of such changes in returns.
  • Assists with special projects.
  • Knowledgeable in audit and notice work.
  • Completes other duties assigned as needed.

     

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education:
    • High School degree or equivalent required
    • Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in Accounting strongly preferred
    • MBA or CPA a plus
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years transactional multi-state tax and high-level accounting experience strongly preferred, preferably in a leadership role
    • Prior involvement in complex reconciliation of multi-record data and system implementation/administration preferred

       

      SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Skills:
    • Hard Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel), SAP, and Vertex Returns preferred
    • Soft Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills; keen attention to detail; ability to lead others
  • Typical Physical Demands:
    • Commonly requires 45 hour work weeks.
    • Possible evening/weekend work.
    • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
    • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
  • Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
