Business Systems Analyst - Merchandise Technology

BASIC PURPOSE: The Business Systems Analyst will be responsible for performing detailed requirements analysis and quality assurance testing to support Merchandise Technology solutions.



  • Elicit, analyze, communicate, and manage business requirements.
  • Analyze and document as-is and future state process and system interfaces.
  • Perform quality assurance activities including test planning, test scripts, test execution, and defect management.
  • Identify opportunities for application optimization, redesign, or enhancements to enable business units and grow customer base.
  • Provide internal and external user product support, escalating issues and defects where indicated.
  • Assist in release planning and deployment activities.
  • Engage in building strong relationships with key stakeholders, subject matter experts and team members to earn their trust, confidence and respect.
  • Be part of a fast-paced agile scrum team and participate in scrum ceremonies.
  • Work with the Product Owner(s) where necessary to help define, document and deliver required deliverables to support projects.
  • Effectively conduct large meetings spanning multiple teams on complex matters.
  • Follow standard project management methodologies to deliver projects on time, on budget and with high quality.
  • Interface with key stakeholders and business leaders to provide timely updates with regards to progress.
  • Mentor other business analysts.



  • Education:
    • Bachelor/Masters degree in MIS, Business, Technology or related field
    • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or IIBA Certifications are a plus but not required
  • Experience:
    • 3- 5 years’ experience in business analysis.
    • Agile methodology experience including Scrum.
    • Quality assurance experience including test planning, test execution, and defect management.
    • Familiarity with software development tools (VSTS, JIRA, Rally, Agile Accelerator, etc.)
    • History of creating detailed documentation and giving presentations.
    • Knowledge of BABOK and SDLC methodologies.
    • Understanding of supply chain and retail business processes.


  • Skills:
    • Quick learner with an ability to ramp up in technologies and modules to meet business needs.
    • Ability to prioritize and manage numerous competing demands in a high stress environment.
    • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office products: Word, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and SharePoint.
    • Work independently and make decisions quickly when necessary.
    • Basic knowledge of databases, systems integration, application development and reporting.
    • Ability to facilitate and lead very complex discussions in a mixed technical and business team environment.
    • Capable of thinking of the big picture and sorting through an ambiguous environment.
    • Ability to manage 100+ emails per day.
  • Typical Physical Demands:
    • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
    • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
    • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
    • Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
