Tank Cleaning Technician - Houston, TX

BASIC PURPOSE: The main objective of this position is executing all proper procedures to clean underground and above ground diesel tanks to meet company standards for quality control and to provide the best customer service at the lowest possible cost.    

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Proper completion of all cleaning orders as well as personal compliance with all company policies.

  • Responsible for removal of tank pumps, fill valves, and other accessories to gain access to the tank. After cleaning sampling will be necessary to assure that it meets company quality standards.

  • Perform maintenance duties on the other fueling and compression equipment as instructed by the Regional Manager.

  • Responsible for ensuring that all tanks and peripheral equipment are cleaned to meet proper company standards for quality control

  • Loads hoses, chemicals and other equipment required for assigned job onto truck. (Necessary materials to be designated by supervisor)

  • Responsible for cleaning all equipment, including trailer, vehicle and work area.

  • Hooks up and breaks down tank accessories using proper tools, gaskets and Teflon tape, as directed by supervisor.

  • Accountable for the proper servicing of all external valves, pumps, fittings, hose connections, and hose tubes on the trailer/ container.

  • Responsible for enforcing and practicing safety rules and company policy.

  • Responsible for the completion and submission of reports to the Tank Cleaning Manager of all cleaning orders.

  • Following All Safety Policies.

  • Accountable for personal compliance with all company policies including:

    • Quality Cleaning Policies

    • Respirator Policy

    • Hazardous Waste Disposal Policy

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Ensure that each cleaning order is completed correctly per company instructions

  • Must complete all pre and post training including safety, new hire, and regulatory.

  • Cleans up work area and equipment after work is completed. Assists in maintaining a safe, clean workplace, change room, locker area and customer’s facility.

  • Assist in the inspection of equipment, hoses, connections, pumps and general work area prior to starting any job. Informs supervisor of deficiencies, which may cause accidents, injuries or lost productivity.

  • Wears the personnel protective equipment prescribed by posted signs, written instructions, and work permits. Also wears additional protective equipment specified by the supervisor or Customer Safety Department.

  • Promotes safety through own actions and work habits. Reports all accidents and near misses, involving self, company vehicles or other job personnel to supervisor immediately.

  • Performs Hazard Recognition Awareness to remove all hazards from the workplace.

  • Complies with all applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the company and customer.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor and management personnel.

  • Develops and practice advanced working knowledge of all equipment that is utilized in performing assigned duties.

  • To drive and operate efficiently and safely, all power equipment independently. Transport oil, oily water, fuel and water, wastewater, diesel, diesel & water and other various chemicals that may be presented to Trillium for transport and be responsible for the DOT Laws applicable to such. Perform service work and maintenance

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • HS Diploma or equivalent required 

  • 5 years Tank Cleaning Experience preferred

  • OK UST Remover License required

  • TX UST Contractor License or On-site Supervisor License A + B

  • Knowledge and understanding of DOT, HOS & FMCSA standards

  • Valid driver’s license

 

SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Able to physically control industrial hydro blasting and vacuum equipment.

  • Able to carry industrial hoses (up to 60 lbs.)

  • Must be safety conscious and have good work ethics.

  • Basic mechanical skills preferred.

  • Tools, equipment, machinery used: Large industrial cleaning equipment and materials, large industrial vehicles, cranes, hoists.

  • May periodically use computers for training purposes and logging of tank cleaning reports.

  • Working conditions: outside work, extreme temperatures, noisy conditions, shift work, flexible schedules, on-call hours, 24/7 availability.

  • Physical effort required: Heavy lifting, working with large machinery and contact with diesel fuel.
