BASIC PURPOSE: This individual will be part of the database administration team. DBA team is responsible for performance tuning, backups, integration, ETL, database configuration, database installation, database monitoring, troubleshooting database issues/timeouts, database modeling, SSIS packages, willingness to grow and learn new database technologies utilizing legacy onprem technologies and cloud technologies.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with other team members collaboratively in understanding and resolving database issues including database performance problems
  • Installation of SQL Server, including Active-Active/Active-Passive clustering, Always-ON configuration, Pre/post Configuration (OLAP vs. OLTP vs. Data Warehouse vs. Reporting), Physical files & filegroups configurations
  • Working knowledge of MySQL, PostgreSQL, or NoSQL Databases is a plus
  • Complete project tasks as assigned on time
  • Follow established processes for change control/SDLC
  • Participate in on-call rotation as needed to support operations of critical databases.
  • Ability to understand and troubleshoot complex business logic in stored procedures, identify problems and implement solutions
  • Works with other senior DBA members of the team and the server group to provide operational support and triage
  • Ability to work in high-pressure break/fix situations
  • Proactively monitors the databases (performance, backups, security, database file sizes etc.)
  • Identify poorly performing queries, stored procedures, views etc., as well as take steps to improve performance this includes index design and maintenance
  • Aptitude to learn new technologies and desire to sustain modernization in an ever-changing technology space
  • Conduct peer code reviews

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education:
    • HS diploma or equivalent required
    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with MIS or technology related degree, such as C.S., required
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3 years of database administration and operational support in large scale SQL Server or equivalent database environment preferred

 

      SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of the SDLC.
    • Strong SQL Server database operations background with Windows Server experience (DMVs, Profiler, Perfmon, DBCC etc.)
    • Strong proficiency in query optimization including Logical query processing, Resource (Disk/IO/Processor) utilization analysis, Retrieval and dissection of query execution plans
    • Prior experience with high availability (Clustering Vs. Mirroring Vs. Log Shipping Vs. Replications Vs AlwaysON) and disaster recovery (backup and recovery strategies)
    • Prior experience with SQL security and SQL auditing
    • Database Performance Tuning
    • MySQL, PostgreSQL, or NoSQL Databases
    • Data modeling experience is a plus
    • Certifications related to Microsoft SQL Server is a plus
  • Typical physical demands:
    • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping
    • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
    • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator
    • Requires normal range of hearing and vision
